The Executive Council authorized a raise in Star Ferry fares for the Central-Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai-Tsim Sha Tsui routes to come into effect on the 3rd of April.
On weekdays, the upper deck will cost HK$5, whereas the lower deck will cost HK$4. On weekends and holidays, the upper deck will cost HK$6.5, and the lower deck will cost HK$5.6. Elderly will no longer receive a free ride, and instead pay a reduced rate of HK$2. Youngsters aged 3 to 12 will also have differing prices based on the day and deck they are using. Furthermore, monthly tickets and tourist fares are also increasing.
In 2020, many news stories were released about the renowned ferry service possibly ending because there were fewer tourists in the city due to the Covid-19 outbreak. A government representative revealed that the Star Ferry had been facing monetary losses since 2018.
