Cosmetics Hong Kong – 6 Stores We Love in 2021

by | Jun 13, 2021 | 0 comments

Want high-quality cosmetics but don’t want to pay sky-high prices?  Here at SavvyinHK, we feel your pain, and we’re here to help you smile while you reapply your lip-gloss.

Hong Kong and luxury cosmetics go hand in hand but, the prices can get rather expensive. Luckily, the city is full of affordable and quality makeup options, too.

We’ve rounded up a list of the best places to buy affordable yet high-quality cosmetic products both online and in-store.

In this article, we will cover where to buy a variety of makeup, including:

  • Cult makeup products (clinically proven)
  • Long-lasting Italian makeup products
  • Designer makeup without Hong Kong prices
  • Korean and Japanese makeup

1. Cult Beauty – Online beauty store selling well-regarded cosmetics

Hula lipstick is long lasting and available in strong, powerful colors.

Why we chose it:

  • Fabulous website selling only high-quality cosmetics and skincare products – you can qualify for free shopping with orders over  £60 (~HK$660).
  • Are you looking for makeup products that are actually effective? Cult Beauty is the insider’s guide to the world’s best beauty products, from skincare to makeup.
  • Each of Cult Beauty’s products is carefully selected for efficacy and stand-alone excellence.

What we like:

What we don’t like:

  • Buying cosmetics can be tricky. How can you know it’s the right shade? The good thing about buying items from the Cult Beauty website is a large number of reviews – it cuts through these worries when you can check out what actual customers have said.

Summary:

  • One more great thing; you can knock 20% off all the prices online! When you get your makeup shipped to Hong Kong, they knock off the UK VAT, which gives you a nice discount at the checkout.
  • When I’ve ordered from Cult Beauty, I’ve not had problems; my products arrived a few days later. Plus, when you put in an order of over £60 (~HK$660), shipping is free.
  • Compared to Sephora, we have found from our own experience that you can expect to pay approximately 20% less for products bought at Cult Beauty

2. Kiko Milano – Long-lasting inexpensive cosmetics in Hong Kong

For high-quality inexpensive makeup products we absolutely love the cosmetics brand Kiko Milano. Their products are all clinically-tested with proven results.

Why we chose it:

  • Have you checked out the Kiko Milano makeup stores in Hong Kong? These cosmetic products are gorgeous looking with a cool minimalist design that’s all about the products’ quality.
  • Kiko Milano was created more than 20 years ago with the specific purpose of producing professional-grade makeup at reasonable prices.
  • The brand uses clinical tests to prove each and every Kiko Milano product’s effectiveness; you can rest easy knowing that the products were made with care.
  • I found the staff to be super helpful; they really knew their products.

What we like:

  • Specializing in high-pigment eyeshadow, long-lasting lipstick, and beautiful bronzers and blushes.
  • Our favorite Kiko Milano cosmetics products are:
    – Long-Lasting Eyeshadow Stick
    – High Pigment Eyeshadow
    – Kohl-based Long-Lasting Eyeliner

What we don’t like:

  • They have fewer stores in Hong Kong than previously. We miss their store in IFC. If you come across a Kiko Milano store, don’t hesitate! Go inside and try their products.

Summary:

  • Importantly, Kiko Milano products are long-lasting. You can expect a similar quality to NARS and MAC Cosmetics but at less than 50% of these more well-known brands’ prices.
  • Check the products out in-store, and you’ll instantly understand the quality you’re getting. Unfortunately, you can’t buy these products online in Hong Kong but, if you stumble upon one of their five stores, do yourself a favor, go inside and try a few products.

3. Selfridges: Designer cosmetics at better prices than Hong Kong

Selfridges sells high-quality designer cosmetics brands at reasonable prices.

Why we chose it:

  • We’re huge fans of what Selfridges has to offer savvy Hong Kong shoppers, including their designer makeup brands at excellent prices.
  • Looking for where to get the following makeup brands in Hong Kong?
    – Dior
    – Bare Minerals
    – Stila
    – Urban Decay
    – Yves Saint Laurent

What we like:

  • Good pricing!

What we don’t like:

  • You have to buy online; you can’t see or feel the makeup. But of course, if you know what you want to buy, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Summary:

  • Head over to Selfridges, where you can buy plenty of internationally famous cosmetics brands more for great prices.
  • What makes Selfridges one of our top picks is their international delivery membership, Selfridges + Global; you pay a one-off $420 for a year of unlimited delivery to Hong Kong and 130 other countries.

4. Strawberrynet – Online platform selling discounted cosmetics and skincare

NARS is a high-quality cosmetics brand that we love. Want to know where to buy this brand in Hong Kong at lower prices? Try StrawberryNet.

Why we chose it:

  • Another great online makeup store in Hong Kong is Strawberrynet; when you know exactly what you’re looking for, for example, an exact replacement for your favorite foundation, this is the site for you.

What we like:

  • They have a huge range of brands, all at discounted prices.
  • Strawberrynet sells makeup brands like:
    – Burberry
    – BareMinerals

    – Stila
    – Covergirl
    – Seventeen
    – Urban Decay
    – Yves Saint Laurent
  • All available for delivery across Hong Kong. The prices are reasonable, with around 30-40% discounts compared to the high street.

What we don’t like:

  • Even though Strawberrynet sells a huge variety of brands, they only sell certain products from each brand. So, if you want to buy a specific product, you may or may not find it on this website.

Summary:

  • If you’re looking for online makeup shopping in Hong Kong, here’s another incentive for you: purchases over HK $300 on Strawberrynet to get free delivery in Hong Kong.
  • With same-day delivery or standard delivery at around three days, your bathroom cabinet will be stocked and ready to help you look stunning in no time.

5. Sasa: High-quality cosmetics instore in Hong Kong

Maybelline New York Makeup Great Lash Lots Of Lashes Washable Mascara, Brownish Black Mascara, 0.43 fl oz

Why we chose it:

  • Looking for where to buy Yves Saint Laurent makeup in Hong Kong? Sasa is the website and store to check out.
  • Sasa sells a limited range of makeup brands, but there’s clearly been a lot of effort behind their stock choices. They have a great range of brilliant value, international, Japanese, and Korean makeup brands.

What we like:

  • Check out the stock of Maybelline products. It’s a classic makeup brand that’s inexpensive but gets the job done – their mascara and eyeshadows are famous worldwide.
  • If the great makeup wasn’t enough, they have a wide range of makeup brushes, sponges, and tweezers to get you well preened.
  • In lots of the stores, you can get the skincare brand The Ordinary. It’s a no-frills, high-quality skincare brand that sells products with active ingredients such as acids, retinoids, peptides, and vitamin C. You can pick up products from The Ordinary for about half the price of other brands that have the same active ingredients.

What we don’t like:

  • The range of cosmetics brands that Sasa stocks are relatively limited; if you are searching for specific cosmetics brands, you may not find them here.

Summary:

  • Their makeup stores are all over Hong Kong, including quite a few in Tsim Sha Tsui. Sasa, more than 100 locations across Hong Kong.

6. Mong Kok Argyle Centre – Great for Korean and Japanese cosmetics

Mong Kok Argyle Centre is well known for selling Korean and Japan cosmetics at low prices.

Why we chose it:

  • Mong Kok’s Argyle Centre is a haven for purchasing quality makeup in Hong Kong, without the standard price tags. You might be surprised to know that the Argyle Centre is home to some really well-known and popular overseas makeup brands such as:
    – Tarte
    – Huda Beauty
    – Urban Decay
    – Sugarbox

What we like:

  • The makeup is quite seasonal and often changes, so you’ll find something new during each trip to the Argyle Centre, and it’s always reasonably priced.

What we don’t like:

  • You never know what you’ll end up finding – no guarantees.

Summary:

  • The Argyle Centre is home to shops selling Korean and Japanese makeup brands that are worth checking out; these brands heavily focus on enhancing skin quality.
  • The best part is many of these products are reasonably priced.

Mongkok Argyle Centre location:

  • 688 Nathan Rd, Mong Kok, Kowloon. Use B2 exit of Kowloon MTR Station.
