What we don’t like:

• Views are not super exciting as the hotel is surrounding by residential and commercial buildings.

Why we chose it:

• Hotel ICON is centrally located in Kowloon and offers a great F&B experience; the hotel is part of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and is an extension of its School of Hotel and Tourism Management. 

What we like:

• Excellent hotel facilities with a heated pool on the roof, a 24-hour gym, and Angsana Spa (run by Banyan Tree).
• The hotel has three restaurants; Above and Beyond (Chinese), which is located on the 28th floor and has terrific views, The Market (buffet restaurant), and Green (Asian regional specialties).

What we don’t like:

• Perhaps not the most glamorous of rooms

What we like:

• They offer quadruple beds and have plenty of connecting rooms which is great if you do a staycation with kids.
• On the 42nd floor, the pool has a heated pool featuring an underwater sound system, a separate whirlpool, a snack bar, a strikingly designed pool deck, and amazing city views.

What we like:

• We love that we basically got free F&B for our entire staycation; it almost feels like you’re paying for dinner and getting the room for free
• It’s fun to wander through Pacific Place and then up to Hong Kong Park
• They gave each of our kids a stuffed toy upon exit

What we don’t like:

• They only allow you to book pool time on the day; set your alarm and book!

• Affordable decadence; a thoroughly enjoyable staycation

What we like:

• The food is of amazing quality; one of the best breakfast buffets in Hong Kong
• The hotel is really well located; you’ll find lots of great shopping and lots of great F&B including Pizza Express, Vietnamese noodles, and plenty more
• There is a kids’ outdoor playground right next to the hotel

What we don’t like:

• The check-in process can be crazy with really long lines; try to avoid 3 pm which is the peak check time
• The rooms aren’t huge but they are modern
