The Best Staycation Hotels in Hong Kong

Do you miss going abroad on holiday? Try a staycation in Hong Kong.

Staycations are a great way to relax. The pandemic is making it impossible for people to travel at the moment, so hotels in Hong Kong have come up with great staycation deals for Hong Kong residents to chill out in the city.

The best way to book a staycation is to use a travel advisor. Use a travel advisor’s network to secure early check-ins, late check-outs, spa credits, vouchers, free transfers, and plenty more.

Staycations are here to stay, so I’m going to tell you:

  • The importance of choosing the right hotel to meet your needs
  • Which hotels are best for a family holiday
  • The best high-end hotel
  • Which hotel is best for exploring Hong Kong
  • The best hotels to take your teenager
  • Which hotel is most romantic
  • Potential perks of using a travel agent to book your staycation in Hong Kong

Select the right hotel to meet your needs

Did you know that some hotels can offer all kinds of different services, including a glamping tent in your room, a scavenger hunt for kids, and a complimentary roll-away bed? Were you aware that not all hotels in Hong Kong have their own pool? Did you know that some hotels are thought of as trendy and cool, and are sure to put a smile on your teenager’s face?

Before you book a staycation in Hong Kong, it’s important to make sure you are booking a hotel that is meeting your needs.

Best hotels in Hong Kong to use for a family holiday

Four Seasons

Want a glamping tent in your room, a scavenger hunt, kid’s fitness activities by the pool, discount rates for kids nails, and hair-braiding? The Four Seasons has all this and more. They also offer daily breakfast for two adults and two kids.

The Four Seasons offers you a relaxing family staycation, one where your kids will be well-catered, and you can relax poolside with a cocktail, enjoy the 5-star spa, or workout at the lux fitness center. This staycation will not leave any member of your family disappointed.

Grand Hyatt

Gallery image of this propertyThe Grand Hyatt is located near the beautiful Wan Chai waterfront. The hotel’s service is first class, but what sets this hotel apart from others is its outdoor facilities.

Their outdoor pool is one of the best in Hong Kong. Across the 11th floor terrace, the hotel boasts a swimming pool that looks out across the harbor. You can spend your time poolside enjoying a cocktail or two while admiring Hong Kong’s skyline. The hotel’s Plateau Spa offers a range of spa treatments, including deep pressure styled massage and facials.

After spending the day by the pool or at the spa, you can then move on to one of their many excellent restaurants, including Grand Cafe, Grissini, The Grill, and Kaetsu.

If you feel like soaking up some sun with a game of tennis, you can book the court. Head over to the Club Lounge, which looks over the harbor and serves a continental breakfast. From 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, the lounge offers a selection of hot and cold snacks, champagne, and cocktails. The Club Lounge has literally spectacular views of Victoria Harbour, and it’s a great place to watch fireworks if you book a staycation for a time there are fireworks.

Importantly, the Grand Hyatt will give you a discount on a second room. The pool is excellent. If you are doing a family staycation, this hotel will meet your needs.

Best high-end hotel

The Rosewood

The Rosewood is simply divine. Uninterrupted views overlooking the harbor, access to one of the hippest clubs in Hong Kong with impressive jazz singers, this is the ultimate staycation.

Check for staycations offering $1,000 vouchers for F&B, access for two to the Manor Club, an $800 voucher to spend at their Asaya spa, a complimentary roll-out bed for a kid (one per room), and a gold card membership to the next door K11 shopping mall containing a $500 voucher. Could you wish for more? If you are longing for an elegant, relaxing weekend, with a fun night out with your loved one at the club, this is perfect.

Best hotel for exploring Hong Kong

St. Regis

The swimming pool at or close to The St. Regis Hong Kong

The St. Regis hotel, the luxury brand of Marriot International, is located in the prime area of Wan Chai’s bustling district near the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

With two one-Michelin-starred restaurants— a French restaurant L’Envol (helmed by Chef Olivier Elzer) and a Chinese restaurant Rùn (led by Chef Hung Chi-Kwong)— you can expect to enjoy the finest food, excellent service, and the most relaxing ambiance.

Usually, this hotel is quite expensive, and it’s for a good reason! The breakfast buffet even offers eggs benedict with caviar.

Just like their NY location, the St. Regis in Wan Chai has a lobby bar that is terrific. This bar has a cool, hip vibe – just perfect for chatting and relaxing. If you’re staying in-house, you can even get a free glass of champagne at 5 pm.

But did you know that right now the St. Regis is offering staycations that include a trip to the beach of your choice? Have you seen all the beautiful beaches that the Gold Coast has to offer?

Best hotels if you have teenagers

Hotel ICON

Hotel ICON is centrally located in Kowloon and offers a unique experience. The hotel is part of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and is an extension of its School of Hotel and Tourism Management

This hotel offers great value for money. It’s considered to be a cool and hip hotel, and if you have teenagers, this is the right choice. Your teenagers will thank you! The reviews are positive, and the hotel ranks as one of the top five hotels in Hong Kong on Trip Advisor.

Those looking for excellent hotel facilities will be pleased to learn that the hotel has a heated pool on the roof as well as a 24-hour gym and Angsana Spa (run by Banyan Tree). The hotel has three restaurants; Above and Beyond (Chinese), which is located on the 28th floor and has terrific views, The Market (buffet restaurant), and Green (Asian regional specialties).

It’s worth exploring a staycation that includes the “club facilities” as the extras are significant. You can expect free-flow champagne for 3-hours at the club lounge as well as free canapes.

The Cordis

The swimming pool at or close to Cordis, Hong KongThe Cordis Hotel, formerly the Langham Place Hotel, is a five-star hotel located in the heart of Mong Kong. The area offers a vibrant mix of night-markets, mahjong parlors, and saunas nearby, but it’s most likely you will just want to enjoy the hotel’s facilities.

On the 42nd floor, the pool has a heated pool featuring an underwater sound system, separate whirlpool, snack bar, strikingly designed pool deck, and amazing views of the city.

The hotel also has a top floor dedicated to Chuan Spa, which is complete with a Japanese bath, steam room, and workout studios. All these facilities have great views of Hong Kong from different angles.

You will have plenty of food to devour during this staycation. The hotel has four onsite restaurants and bars, and the most well-known one is the Michelin-starred Ming Court. You will be in good hands at this hotel.

Best hotel for a romantic getaway

The Upper House

Spa and/or other wellness facilities at The Upper House

The Upper House is an ultra-luxe hotel located in Admiralty, perfect for a romantic weekend getaway. Their restaurant, Cafe Grey Deluxe, is located in the same building and boasts terrific city views for you and your loved one to enjoy a romance-filled date night.

We have reviewed Cafe Grey before. While dinner is on the pricer side, the current deals on offer will enable you to enjoy the full hotel’s facilities at a much lower rate than normal.

While the Upper House doesn’t have a pool onsite, you should be able to use the pool at The Conrad. This pool is just across the road. But bear in mind with the COVID-19 situation, any trip to The Conrad pool needs to be pre-arranged.

Look out for staycation deals that offer dinners for two, breakfast for two, and a complimentary round of drinks at Cafe Grey from 6 pm.

Potential perks of using a travel advisor to book your staycation

Did you know some travel advisor companies are so well-regarded by hotels, that they can secure you extras simply by booking through them? This might mean complimentary breakfasts throughout your stay, private hotel transfers, or spa vouchers. You pay nothing more for these things, so there’s clearly value to be had.

The travel advisor I recommend

The price of staycation packages tend to fluctuate, and you may be wondering about the best deals currently available. Have you considered using a travel advisor to book your staycation?

To be honest, previously, I wasn’t sure that a travel advisor could help me book a staycation in Hong Kong. And in particular, I didn’t expect a travel advisor could help secure me a better deal than I could find by myself on the internet.

I tried out Cath Worthington from 360 Private Travel for a staycation here in Hong Kong. Cath was able to match the lowest rate I found on the internet, but here’s where the benefits came in. The cheapest rate I found on the internet didn’t include breakfast, but Cath was able to get breakfast for two included, a room upgrade, and US$100 F&B credit to use at the hotel during our stay. Amazing!

Cath was able to get me these extras because 360 is the preferred partner for many hotel groups, including Rosewood, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, and Rocco Forte. You can expect to see some great deals for these hotel groups.

Contact Cath now via her website or Instagram to obtain a US$100 voucher on your next staycation package at any Virtuoso or 360 Private Travel Partner hotel
