by | Feb 19, 2021 | 0 comments

Staycations are a great way to relax. The pandemic makes it almost impossible for people to travel, so hotels in Hong Kong are offering great staycation deals for Hong Kong residents to chill out in the city.

In this article, we cover:

  • The importance of choosing the right hotel to meet your needs
  • Which hotels are best for a family holiday
  • The best high-end hotel for a staycation
  • The best hotels to take your teenager.
  • Which hotel is the most romantic

Finally, we look at the benefits of booking a staycation via a travel advisor. If you book via a travel advisor, you can use their network to secure early check-ins, late check-outs, spa credits, vouchers, free transfers, and plenty more.

Select the right hotel to meet your staycation needs

Before you book a staycation in Hong Kong, it’s important to make sure you are booking a hotel that meets your needs. What are your priorities for a staycation? Is it a pool with harbor views, a decadent bathroom with flat-screen TVs, or adjoining rooms?

Did you know that hotels can offer all kinds of different services, including:

  • A glamping tent in your room, a scavenger hunt for kids, and a complimentary roll-away bed
  • Discounted pricing on a second room

Read on to learn about the best staycation hotels in Hong Kong. We tell you the pros and cons of each hotel.

Best staycation hotels in Hong Kong to use for a family holiday.

1. Four Seasons

Why we chose it:

  • Luxury hotel with harbor views; a huge amount of facilities including a pool, spa, and gym
  • They offer daily breakfast for two adults and two kids.

What we like:

  • They can provide a glamping tent in your room, a scavenger hunt, kid’s fitness activities by the pool, discount rates for kids’ nails, and hair-braiding

What we don’t like:

  • Breakfast options aren’t as good as you would expect for a premium hotel.

  • The Four Seasons offers you a relaxing family staycation, one where your kids will be well-catered, and you can relax poolside with a cocktail, enjoy the 5-star spa, or workout at the lux fitness center.
  • This staycation will not leave any member of your family disappointed.

Location: Four Seasons, 8 Finance Street, Central, Hong Kong.

Telephone: +852 3196 8888

2. Grand Hyatt

Why we chose it:

  • The Grand Hyatt is located near the beautiful Wan Chai waterfront.
  • The hotel’s service is first-class, but what sets this hotel apart is its outdoor facilities.
  • The 11th-floor outdoor pool is one of the best in Hong Kong, with views across the harbor. You can spend your time poolside enjoying a cocktail or two while admiring Hong Kong’s skyline.
  • The hotel’s Plateau Spa offers a range of spa treatments, including deep pressure-styled massage and facials.
  • Great dining options including Grand Cafe, Grissini, The Grill, and Kaetsu.

What we like:

  • The Grand Hyatt tends to give a discount on the second room; ask about this.
  • We love the breakfast buffet; a huge variety.
  • We really enjoyed lounging near the pool in the afternoon while sipping on a cocktail or two.

What we don’t like:

  • The hotel is so busy; it can feel quite chaotic when you venture outside your room.

  • If plentiful food options and a pool are top of your priority list, this hotel is a great option.
  • If you are doing a family staycation, this hotel will meet your needs.

Location: Grand Hyatt, 1 Harbour Road, Hong Kong.

Best high-end staycation hotel

The Rosewood

Gallery image of this propertyWhy we chose it:

  • Ornate rooms with lots of bells and whistles, including Dyson hairdryers in all rooms
  • The Asaya Spa has the vibe of a high-end spa in Thailand; you’ll start your experience with a shot of juice, and your experience will only get better from there
  • The infinity pool is beautiful and looks out over the harbor
  • The gym is large and equipped with the newest and best gym equipment

What we like:

  • A diverse range of restaurant options
  • Many packages include breakfast at Holt’s cafe, which offers a mix of Westen and Cantonese favorites; this breakfast is better than almost anywhere else in Hong Kong
  • Direct access to hip new shopping mall K-11

What we don’t like:

  • It’s not cheap to do a staycation at the Rosewood, and prices never seem to go down
  • Room service can be slow because of the volume of guests

  • The Rosewood is simply divine; uninterrupted views overlooking the harbor, access to one of the hippest clubs in Hong Kong with impressive jazz singers.
  • A great option if you want to indulge; this is luxury at its finest

Location: Rosewood Hong Kong, Victoria Dockside, 18 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.

Best staycation hotel for inner-city luxury

St. Regis

The St. Regis Hong Kong is one of the most glamorous hotels for a staycation.

Why we chose it:

  • The St. Regis hotel, the luxury brand of Marriot International, is located in the prime area of Wan Chai’s bustling district
  • Excellent F&B: two one-Michelin-starred restaurants— a French restaurant L’Envol (helmed by Chef Olivier Elzer) and a Chinese restaurant Rùn (led by Chef Hung Chi-Kwong)
  • The hotel has a relaxing ambiance, and rooms are spacious

What we like:

  • Just like their NY location, St. Regis in Wan Chai has a terrific lobby bar. This bar has a cool, hip vibe – just perfect for chatting and relaxing.
  • They offer some good deals, including a Stay and Dine option, which includes breakfast, a 3-course in-room dinner with wine pairings.
  • Attentive service; staff are helpful and courteous, and very good with children

What we don’t like:

  • It’s expensive, although that’s for a good reason; the breakfast buffet even offers eggs benedict with caviar.
  • Views are not super exciting as the hotel is surrounding by residential and commercial buildings.

  • Luxury getaway with sensational F&B
  • Conveniently located in Wan Chai with superb facilities and superb service.

Location: St. Regis Hotel, One Harbour Drive, Wan Chai.

Telephone: +852 2138 6988

Best staycation hotel if you have teenagers

1. Hotel ICON

Thinking about doing a staycation in Hong Kong? Consider The Icon.

Why we chose it:

  • Hotel ICON is centrally located in Kowloon and offers a great F&B experience; the hotel is part of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and is an extension of its School of Hotel and Tourism Management.

What we like:

  • Excellent hotel facilities with a heated pool on the roof, a 24-hour gym, and Angsana Spa (run by Banyan Tree).
  • The hotel has three restaurants; Above and Beyond (Chinese), which is located on the 28th floor and has terrific views, The Market (buffet restaurant), and Green (Asian regional specialties).

What we don’t like:

  • Perhaps not the most glamorous of rooms

  • This hotel offers great value for money. It’s considered a cool and hip hotel, and if you have teenagers, this is the right choice. Your teenagers will thank you!
  • This hotel has very positive reviews, and the hotel ranks as one of the top five hotels in Hong Kong on Trip Advisor.
  • It’s worth exploring a staycation that includes the “club facilities”; you can expect free-flow champagne for 3 hours at the club lounge as well as free canapes.

2. The Cordis

Cordis, Hong Kong hotel is a great option for a staycation in Hong Kong.

Why we chose it:

  • The Cordis Hotel, formerly the Langham Place Hotel, is a five-star hotel located in the heart of Mong Kong.
  • The area offers a vibrant mix of night-markets, mahjong parlors, and saunas nearby, but it’s most likely you will just want to enjoy the hotel’s facilities.

What we like:

  • They offer quadruple beds and have plenty of connecting rooms which is great if you do a staycation with kids.
  • On the 42nd floor, the pool has a heated pool featuring an underwater sound system, a separate whirlpool, a snack bar, a strikingly designed pool deck, and amazing city views.
  • The hotel also has a top floor dedicated to the Chuan Spa, complete with a Japanese bath, steam room, and workout studios. All these facilities have great views of Hong Kong from different angles.
  • You will have plenty of food to devour during this staycation. The hotel has four onsite restaurants and bars, and the most well-known one is the Michelin-starred Ming Court.

What we don’t like:

  • The hotel is basically located in a shopping mall; this could either be a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view.

  • This hotel is well-known for its excellent service; it has a fun, hip vibe that teenagers will like. You will be in good hands at this hotel.

Why we chose it:

  • The Upper House is an ultra-lux hotel located in Admiralty, perfect for a romantic weekend getaway.
  • The hotel boasts terrific city views for you and your loved one to enjoy a romance-filled date night.

What we like:

  • Rooms have a minimalist, zen, and relaxing vibe.
  • Extremely large bathrooms with many rooms offering a huge bathtub on a raised platform with a flat-screen TV
  • They have different types of staycation packages, including “What’s the Occasion,” which includes breakfast for two and a three-course dinner for two, a bottle of wine, and various in-room snacks and beverages.

Potential perks of using a travel advisor to book your Hong Kong staycation

Did you know some travel advisor companies are so well-regarded by hotels that they can secure you extras simply by booking through them?

This might mean complimentary breakfasts throughout your stay, private hotel transfers, or spa vouchers. You pay nothing more for these things, so there’s clearly value to be had.

The travel advisor I recommend

The price of staycation packages tends to fluctuate, and you may be wondering about the best deals currently available. Have you considered using a travel advisor to book your staycation?

To be honest, previously, I wasn’t sure that a travel advisor could help me book a staycation in Hong Kong. And in particular, I didn’t know a travel advisor could help secure me a better deal than I could find by myself on the internet.

I tried out Cath Worthington from 360 Private Travel for a staycation in Hong Kong.

Cath was able to match the lowest rate I found on the internet, but here’s where the benefits came in. The cheapest rate I found on the internet didn’t include breakfast, but Cath was able to get breakfast for two included, a room upgrade, and US$100 F&B credit to use at the hotel during our stay. Amazing!

Cath was able to get me these extras because 360 is the preferred partner for many hotel groups, including Rosewood, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, and Rocco Forte. So if you want to stay at one of these hotel groups, you can expect to see some great deals.

Contact Cath now via her website or Instagram to find out the best deals she can get for your next staycation in Hong Kong.
